Broke a tooth? Grow another!

Dr.
George Huang, chair of endodontics at Boston University Henry M.
Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM), says the primary teeth and
extracted wisdom teeth, we keep throwing away valuable dental stem
cells.

"Our
team for the first team that we dental stem cells in human
embryonic-like cells called induced pluripotent stem cells reprogrammed
(iPS cells), the unlimited source of cells for the regeneration of
tissue can be found," said Dr. Huang.

So
far, scientists have luck creating iPS cells from different cells in
mice had slightly, but that has not so simple, in humans, until
recently. All
three types of human stem cells of the dental team GSDM be tested
easier to use than fibroblasts, which previously seemed to make the best
way to reprogram human iPS cells.

In
a related study, Dr. Huang regenerated two important components of
human dental pulp and dentin for the first time in an experimental mouse
model. The mouse was used to provide power for human tissue regeneration.

With
the help of tissue engineering, researchers looked empty root canal
space with pulp-like tissue supplied with enough blood to fill. Dentin-like tissue regrew on the dentinal wall.

"The finding will revolutionize the endodontic and dental clinical practice by helping to preserve teeth," says Dr. Huang.

Blind man sees wife for first time after having a TOOTH implanted into his eye

When Martin Jones met his wife four years ago, he never imagined that one day he would get to see what she looked like. The 42-year-old builder was left blind after an accident at work more than a decade ago.But a remarkable operation - which implants part of his tooth in his eye - has now pierced his world of darkness. The procedure, performed fewer than 50 times before in Britain, uses the segment of tooth as a holder for a new lens grafted from his skin. 'The doctors took the bandages off and it was like looking through water and then I saw this figure and it was her,' he said today. 'She's wonderful and lovely. It was unbelievable to see her for the first time.' He added: 'When I found out there was a chance I would get my sight back, the first person I wanted to see was her.'Mr Jones, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, married his wife Gill, 50, four years ago.By that time he had already spent eight years without his sight after a tub of white hot aluminium exploded in his face at work in a scrapyard. He suffered 37 per cent burns and had to wear a special body stocking for 23 hours a day. He also had his left eye removed. But surgeons were able to save the right eye, even though he was unable to see through it.At first specialists in Nottingham tried to save his sight using stem cells from a donor but the attempt failed. It was only when a revolutionary new operation was pioneered at the Sussex Eye Clinic in Brighton that he was given a chance to have his sight back.During the procedure, a minute section of a patient's tooth is removed, reshaped and chiselled through to grip the man-made lens which is then placed in its core.It is implanted under an eyelid where it becomes covered in tissue. The process requires a living tooth as an implant because doctors suggest there are chances the eye would reject a plastic equivalent. So a canine - which is the best option due to its shape and size - was taken out of Mr Jones' mouth. A patch of skin is then taken from the inside of the cheek and placed in the eye for two months, where it gradually acquires its own blood supply. The tooth segment is finally transplanted into the eye socket. The flap of grafted skin is then partially lifted from the eye and placed over its new sturdy base.

PediSedate

The Only Game Boy Accessory Designed to Drug Children. This is a Game Boy hooked up to a nitrous oxide machine. It's called the PediSedate. Nope, nothing sketchy about this. The PediSedate was designed for dentists, allowing them to distract kids with video games while they were drugged in prep for oral surgery. But hey, why limit it to dentists? You could use this to sedate children for any number of reasons! And with a name like PediSedate, you get all sorts of great ideas right off the bat. I'm so surprised this never caught on.

Teeth Whisperers

The phrase "The eyes are the windows to the soul", is attributed to
various writers and philosophers. But the sentence: "The teeth are
windows to the health," it is because, Mohamed Bassiouny, DMD, MSc,
PhD, which examines how the teeth provide important information on
their patients' health for more than 30 years. As part of the ongoing investigation, a chronic patient
Bassiouny in November / December issue of General Dentistry, whose
teeth have been eroded by stomach acids, a condition often associated
with bulimia and other systemic diseases.
However, in this case the patient had no history of an eating
disorder or abnormal gastric reflux syndrome. Instead, he suffered from
dysmenorrhoea - painful cramps associated with menstruation. That is
what forced severe cramps in the stomach acids back up the esophagus
and mouth. Bassiouny, a professor of restorative dentistry at the Temple of
the Kornberg School of Dentistry, says he was able to detect and
diagnose the problem of accounting for the status of oral health,
taking account of all medical and dental history and other things that
may not.
"It is important that providers of health care through the mouth
to examine all options," he said. "I do not think you can only on the
mouth of a person, and a cavity filled. Other factors, health must also
be considered - for example, a patient of race and inheritance, as well
as their habits and manner of life - so that we can with the state, and
is not repeated. "
E 'a broad thinking, which allows Bassiouny to find more
information about the health condition of a patient only once in the
mouth. Among other damage to the teeth of the patient to a dentist can
be said about what it's like the diet in which the use of drugs (and
what) if they have a mental disorder, or if you are under stress. Bassiouny said in this context, the dentists are in the forefront when it comes to the treatment of patients' welfare.

"Many patients may cause damage to teeth as a result of another
disease or a habit or lifestyle. But many have with him for so long
that they do not realize that there is a problem," he said. "You can feel their normal, so that you do not visit if their
doctor for a check-up," he added. "But if we see something in your
mouth, raises a red flag, not only you can heal your oral health, but
the support they need if something serious happens in other parts of
the body."

Individualized Zirconium Dental Implants

Austrian Surgeons have designed a system to produce via CAD/CAM
individualized Zirconium Dental Implants for use in case of immediate
implant placement. In short, after a tooth is extracted it is scanned
and a zirconium copy is milled. The milled copy has macro-retentive
features which help secure the new implant in the extraction socket.
They report a 90% success rate.Individualized Zirconia implants for immediate tooth replacement meet not only in form and color the specific patient demands, but provide also perfect fit for primary stability with hardly any trauma in comparison to common drilling and augmentation procedures, regularly employed in conventional treatment modalities.http://bioimplant.at/index-Dateien/Page422.htm
